The New “Lazy” Way to Make Money: Copy This Idea

What if making money online didn’t require inventing the next big thing?

One of the simplest approaches is to find something that already works, study why it works, and create your own version of the idea.

Not copying someone’s content word-for-word. Not stealing their brand. Instead, copy the business model.

Step 1: Find something that already sells

Look at successful creators, newsletters, blogs, digital products, apps, or services.

Ask:

  • What are people paying for?
  • Who is buying it?
  • What problem does it solve?
  • How is the product being marketed?

You don't need a completely original idea. You need to understand what people already want.

Step 2: Make your own version

Once you've found an interesting idea, put your own spin on it.

For example, if someone sells a budgeting template for freelancers, you could create a budgeting template specifically for students, families, or small business owners.

Same basic concept.

Different audience. Different positioning. Your own product.

Step 3: Make it ridiculously simple

This is where the “lazy” part comes in.

Don't build a complicated business before you've proven anyone wants it.

Start with something small:

One problem → one solution → one product.

A $10 template, a short guide, a checklist, a mini-course, or a simple service can be enough to test the idea.

Step 4: Let the internet do the heavy lifting

Create content around the problem your product solves.

Write posts. Make short videos. Answer questions. Share useful tips.

Instead of constantly saying, “Buy my product,” demonstrate that you understand the problem.

People who have that problem can then discover what you've created.

The real trick

The “lazy” way isn't actually doing nothing.

It's avoiding unnecessary work.

You don't need to spend six months developing an idea nobody wants.

You don't need to invent an entirely new category.

And you don't need a huge audience before you start.

Find existing demand. Understand it. Create something useful for a specific group of people. Test it quickly. Then improve what gets traction.

That's a much smarter starting point than sitting around waiting for a million-dollar idea to magically appear.

Don't copy someone's work. Copy the thinking behind the business.
